Solar Panels

Solar heating in Ireland? Yes, we’ve heard all the jokes; but actually, you don’t need a subtropical climate to make the most of the sun’s rays. We’ve installed plenty of solar water heating systems in South Dublin, Naas and Kildare, and their owners are now benefiting from reduced energy costs.

Here’s a bit more about how solar water heating can benefit your household - and how you can even get a grant towards your energy-saving installation.

How Solar Heating Works

Solar thermal systems can reduce your water-heating bills by up to 50% - a fantastic saving. Roof-mounted panels absorb sunlight which is used to heat a carrier fluid. This is used to heat the water in your hot water cylinder.

It doesn’t matter if your hot water usage exceeds what the sun can produce - your conventional water heater will simply top it up.

Modern solar panels sit neatly on your roof. You’ll need a south-facing roof that’s free from shadows, and is at the correct angle for maximum sunlight.

SEAI Solar Heating Grants

SEAI offers Irish homeowners the opportunity to gain a grant towards their solar heating costs. All homeowners, including landlords can apply, provided their property was built before 2011, and that this forms part of other energy upgrade work. The maximum grant is €1200.

At Norman Heating, we’re authorised to complete the application on your behalf, saving you the job of filling in all the paperwork.
