Upgrading your central heating and hot water controls can make a big difference to your gas bills - and everyday comfort. A modern controller lets you set up different heating zones, control your home’s temperature using thermostats, and can also separate the radiators from the hot water system.
You Can Divide your Heating Into Efficient Zones
Many old controllers aren’t very flexible: your boiler is either on or off. This can even mean having to switch on the whole system in the summer, simply to run a bath.
A modern controller lets you separate your home into different zones. For example, upstairs and downstairs can be on different timers to fit in around your lifestyle, and the radiators and hot water can be run independently of each other.
New heating controls can communicate with room and radiator thermostats, meaning the heating powers down when the house is at your chosen temperature. You can even upgrade to app-based controls.
There are SEAI Grants to Help You Upgrade
The SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) offers home energy grants to householders wanting a more efficient system.
They offer heating controls grants worth up to €750, which are available to householders who are carrying out upgrades. Homeowners (including landlords) with a property built before 2006 can apply for an SEAI grant. The good news is that Norman Heating is authorised to apply on your behalf - so you won’t even have to do the paperwork.
Combine New Controls With a Gas Boiler Replacement
By combining your new heating controls with a replacement gas boiler, you’ll really keep those energy bills down. An efficient, A-rated boiler can reduce your bills by up to 30%, and if this is combined with responsive new controls, this means savings of around €400 a year.
